In conjunction with NHL Broadcast Rightsholders NBC and VERSUS, the league announced today that four Chicago Blackhawks games will be broadcast on national television during the 2008-09 regular season.

Highlighting the slate will be the NHL Winter Classic 2009 – which pits the Blackhawks against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings – on January 1 at Noon (CT), one of just two contests the league announced as part of its NBC schedule. Chicago will have the chance to make more appearances on NBC’s “Game of the Week” in the second half of the season, once the league and network announce the remaining eight contests as part of their flex scheduling agreement.

The Blackhawks will also appear on VERSUS three times during the 2008-09 campaign, starting when they face off against the Minnesota Wild on Mon., Oct. 27 at 7:00 P.M. Chicago will host Minnesota on VERSUS on Mon., Jan. 19 at 7:00 P.M., before making their final regular-season appearance on VERSUS at the Montreal Canadiens on Tue., March 31 at 6:30 P.M. All times are subject to change.

The remaining Blackhawks games this season – home and away – will be televised in HD on Comcast SportsNet Chicago and WGN-TV, the official television broadcasting partners of the Blackhawks. Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk will provide the television coverage. Every game in 2008-09 can also be heard on the new radio home of the Blackhawks, WGN AM 720, with John Wiedeman and Troy Murray calling the action. The complete Blackhawks television broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
