BLACKHAWKS RECALL HUTTON, SIMPSON ADDED

Rockford, Ill. - The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled goaltender Carter Hutton from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. In addition, the Blackhawks have reassigned goaltender Kent Simpson from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye to Rockford.

Hutton, 27, has posted a 26-22-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.72 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 51 games this season with Rockford. He registered a season-long six-game win streak from Feb. 16 to March 8, and made a season-high 41 saves on March 29 vs. Milwaukee.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native has earned a 60-44-8 record with seven shutouts, a 2.64 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 120 career AHL games over four seasons with Adirondack, Worcester and Rockford from 2009 to 2013. Prior to his professional career, Hutton played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell from 2006 to 2010 and was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team in 2007-08.

Hutton was signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on Feb. 24, 2012.

Simpson, 21, has appeared in one game for the IceHogs this season. The rookie goaltender stopped 29 of 34 chances in a 6-3 loss to the Texas Stars on Jan. 21.

In his first professional campaign, Simpson spent the year primarily with the Walleye. In 41 appearances, the Edmonton, Alberta native went 20-14-5 with a .912 save percentage and a 2.36 goals against average.

The backstop made his pro debut with Rockford in the IceHogs season finale a season ago, picking up a shootout loss despite making 38 saves against the Charlotte Checkers. Prior to turning pro, Simpson spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Everett Silvertips and was Chicago’s second round draft pick (#58 overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
