BLACKHAWKS RECALL GUSTAFSSON
The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
Gustafsson, 23, has tallied one assist and 10 penalty minutes over eight games with the IceHogs in his first professional season in North America. The Nynashamn, Sweden, native signed with the Blackhawks as a free agent on April 30, 2015.
Last season, Gustafsson shared fifth among Swedish Hockey League defensemen with 29 points (4G, 25A) in 55 regular-season games with Frolunda; he also posted 131 shots on goal. He also added three points (1G, 2A), including one game-winner and 31 penalty minutes in 12 postseason contests. Gustafsson totaled 56 points (9G, 47A) in 146 regular-season SHL games across three seasons with Frolunda (2013-15) and Djurgardens (2011-12). He was originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round (93rd overall) of the 2012 National Hockey League Draft.
The Blackhawks return to action tomorrow night against the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre at 7:00 p.m. The game can be seen on Comcast SportsNet and heard on WGN Radio AM-720.
