Blackhawks Recall Dowell From Rockford

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled center Jake Dowell (DOW-uhl) from the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

Dowell, 24, made his season debut with the Blackhawks on Saturday, appearing in 7:26 of action during the team’s 2-0 win over the Nashville Predators. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native leads Rockford with six assists and ranks second with seven points in eight games this season, while serving as the team’s captain. He also appeared in five preseason contests with the Blackhawks, posting one assist.

Overall, Dowell has appeared in 21 regular-season games with the Blackhawks over the last three seasons (2007-09), posting three points (2G, A) and 10 penalty minutes, which includes being held scoreless in one game with the club in 2008-09. He spent the majority of last season with Rockford, ranking second on the club with a professional career-high 128 penalty minutes while also collecting 14 assists and 20 points in 75 regular-season contests.

The Blackhawks’ 10th choice (140th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Dowell has appeared in 160 career AHL games since turning pro at the end of the 2006-07 season, racking up 220 penalty minutes and 52 points (18G, 34A) with the Norfolk Admirals (2007) and Rockford (2007-09). Prior to turning pro, he spent four seasons at the University of Wisconsin, tallying 90 points (42G, 48A) and 214 penalty minutes in 159 games from 2003 to 2007.
