Chicago, Ill.-The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed defenseman Nick Boynton, a member of the 2010 Stanley Cup Championship team, to a one-year contract.
Boynton, 31, posted a +2 plus/minus rating in three Stanley Cup Final tilts, which includes being on the ice for Patrick Kane’s overtime winner in Game 6. Originally acquired in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks on March 2, 2010, Boynton recorded one assist, 12 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in seven regular-season games with Chicago during the 2009-10 campaign.
The Nobleton, Ontario, native also recorded seven points (G, 6A), 59 penalty minutes, and a +1 plus/minus rating in 42 games with Anaheim in 2009-10, to go along with five assists and 22 penalty minutes in 15 American Hockey League games with Rockford and Manitoba.
The Boston Bruins’ first choice, 21st overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Boynton has registered 33 goals and 103 assists in 554 National Hockey League games with Boston (1999-2006), Phoenix (2006-08), Florida (2008-09), Anaheim (2009-10) and Chicago over a 10-year career. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team following the 2001-02 campaign, and represented Boston as an Eastern Conference All-Star during the 2003-04 season.
