The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman
Cam Barker on a three-year contract.
“We have had the privilege of watching Cam grow up in our organization and agree that his contributions are going to help take us to the next level,” Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon said.
Barker, 23, ranked third among team defensemen with 34 assists and 40 points, both career-highs, while appearing in a career-best 68 regular-season contests with the Blackhawks in 2008-09. He recorded 24 of his 34 assists on the power-play, the most on the club, and finished with 29 points on the man advantage, the best among team blueliners and second overall on Chicago. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native led Blackhawks defensemen with three goals and ranked third with nine points in 17 contests during his Stanley Cup Playoff debut.
Chicago’s first choice, third overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Barker has notched 66 points (13G, 53A) and 161 penalty minutes in 149 regular-season outings with the club since making his debut during the 2005-06 season.
