Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon has released the following statement regarding the passing of former Blackhawks forward Pit Martin, 64.

“This is a very sad day for the Blackhawks family. Pit was a wonderful human being and a mentor to me. Growing up in the same town, I idolized him and then was very lucky to have a chance to play with him in the National Hockey League. He was such a great man that did so much for his family and the community. He is going to be missed by everyone in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Martin, a native of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, skated in a Blackhawks uniform from 1967-78 and ranks seventh in club history with 627 points (243 goals, 384 assists) in 740 career outings. He helped form the famous “MPH” line with teammates Jim Pappin and Dennis Hull from 1968-75, while also serving as team captain for two seasons (1975-77).

Overall, Martin, who appeared in four All-Star Games, skated in 1,101 career NHL contests from 1961-79, racking up 809 points (324 goals, 485 assists), which also included stints with the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, and Vancouver Canucks.
