Winger comes to IceHogs after career junior season
Chicago, Ill.- Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman announced on Friday that the National Hockey League club has loaned winger Kyle Beach to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
Beach, Chicago’s first-round draft pick (#11 overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, tallied a career junior best 52 goals with the Spokane Chiefs (WHL) this season. His goal total led all Western Hockey League skaters and Beach’s 86 points in 68 games were second best on the Chiefs.
In the WHL playoffs, Beach led Spokane with seven more tallies and tied for the team lead with nine points. Spokane was knocked out of the WHL postseason on Wednesday night when the Portland Winterhawks topped them 5-4 in overtime of game seven of the first round. Beach tallied a goal and an assist in the decisive game seven.
During the regular season, Beach posted four hat tricks and netted two or more goals in a game 14 times, which includes a three-game stretch from February 13 to 17 when he collected eight markers. He collected multiple points in 27 of his 68 matchups, including two four-point outings. Beach notched at least one point in 16 of his final 19 regular-season games (23G, 15A), which included a season-high 12-game point streak from Jan. 27 to Feb. 19. He potted at least one goal in six of his seven postseason tilts.
After completing his 2008-09 WHL season with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Beach joined the IceHogs and appeared in two regular season games and one Calder Cup Playoff tilt. Beach accumulated 15 penalty minutes in his two regular season contests. In 251 career WHL games, Beach totaled 134g-139a-273pts.
