The Chicago Blackhawks have established a preseason franchise record tonight by hosting a capacity crowd of 19,734 fans for their game against the Washington Capitals. Prior to Saturday’s contest, the previous preseason record was set on September 23, 2008 when Chicago hosted 18,752 fans for its matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Blackhawks led the National Hockey League with an average of 22,247 fans per game during the 2008-09 regular-season, which includes setting a league club record by attracting an average of 21,732 fans to its 40 home dates at the United Center. Chicago also established a franchise record by welcoming over 1,000,000 fans (1,052,261) to the United Center in 2008-09, including the regular-season and playoffs.
