BLACKHAWKS ASSIGN SALAK; HUTTON RECALLED FROM TOLEDO

Rockford, Ill. - The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned goaltender Alexander Salak to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs. In addition, the IceHogs have recalled goaltender Carter Hutton from the Toledo Walleye (ECHL) and loaned forward David Toews to the Walleye.

Salak, 24, helped lead Farjestad BK to the 2011 Swedish Elitserien championship, ranking second among league netminders with a 1.97 GAA and .926 save percentage in 33 regular-season contests. The goaltender was acquired by Chicago, along with forward Michael Frolik, in a trade with the Florida Panthers on February 9.

The Strakonice, Czech Republic, native made his North American debut during the 2009-10 season, being honored as an American Hockey League All-Star in the midst of compiling a 29-14-0 record and a .910 save percentage over 50 games with the AHL’s Rochester Americans.

Hutton, 26, appeared in 22 games for the Worcester Sharks (AHL) in 2010-11, posting an 11-7-2 record with a goals-against average of 3.01 and a save percentage of .902 with two shutouts.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native also backed up in San Jose with the Sharks for 13 games last season. Combined with a short stint with the Adirondack Phantoms (AHL) in 2009-10, the 6-1, 184-pound goaltender has compiled a 12-9-3 record at the pro level with a 2.96 GAA and a .912 SPCT.

Toews, 21, spent the 2010-11 campaign with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, notching 48 points (20g-28a).

Prior to skating in the WHL, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native played two seasons with the University of North Dakota, compiling nine goals and 17 assists in 55 contests.
