Chicago, Ill.- The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Tuesday that goaltender Joe Palmer has been assigned to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

Palmer is under an AHL contract with Rockford for the 2010-11 season. The second-year goalie spent 2009-10 with the Texas Brahmas (CHL) and compiled a record of 13-10-4 with three shutouts. The Yorkville, New York native had a .914 save percentage to go along with a 2.75 goals against average.

Prior to playing at the professional level, Palmer skated three seasons at Ohio State University. The 6-1 backstop was drafted by the Blackhawks in the fourth round (#96 overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Palmer received two recalls to the IceHogs last season but did not receive any playing time between the pipes.

Chicago also assigned forwards Rob Flick, Byron Froese, Mirko Hoefflin and Phillipe Paradis, and goaltender Kent Simpson to their junior clubs. In addition, the Hawks released forward Steele Boomer and defenseman Dallas Jackson.

The Blackhawks’ training camp roster now stands at 48 active players, which includes 28 forwards, 16 defensemen and four goaltenders.
