BLACKHAWKS ASSIGN FIVE TO ROCKFORD
Rockford, Ill. – The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Tuesday they have assigned forwards Pierre-Cedric Labrie, Sam Carrick, and Spencer Abbott along with defensemen Cameron Schilling, and Viktor Svedberg to the Rockford IceHogs. All five players will report to IceHogs training camp.
Labrie, 30, played 66 games with the IceHogs last season notching 34 points (20G, 14A) while racking up 102 penalty minutes. The Baie-Comeau, Quebec native played in his 500th professional game in a 2-1 shootout loss against Charlotte on Oct. 27, 2015. He also recorded his first career hat trick and only one of the season for Rockford on March 8 against Milwaukee.
Abbott, 28, played the 2015-16 season in the Swedish Hockey League with Frolunda HC where he scored 14 goals and added 21 assists in 42 games. He added one assist in nine playoff games. The native of Hamilton, Ontario played 19 games with the Rockford IceHogs during the 2014-15 season. He tallied 21 points (12G, 9A) during the regular season and six points (3G, 3A) in eight postseason appearances. Abbott signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks on July 1.
Carrick, 24, spent the bulk of the last four seasons with the Toronto Marlies. The Markham, Ontario native has 41 goals and 59 assists in 192 career AHL games. In 36 career Calder Cup Playoffs games, he has scored 17 points (6G, 11A). Carrick made his NHL debut against Chicago on Nov. 1, 2014 and has appeared in 19 NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs. On July 1, he signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks.
Schilling, 27, of Carmel, Ind. appeared in 73 games with 22 points (5G, 17A) for Rockford last season. He has appeared in 283 AHL games with 72 points (18G, 54A). Schilling made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals in the 2012-13 season.
Svedberg, 25, made his NHL debut last season with Chicago on Oct. 9 at the New York Islanders and tallied his first NHL point with a goal on Oct. 15. In 27 games with the Blackhawks, Svedberg recorded four points (2G, 2A). The 6-foot-9-inch defenseman from Gothenburg, Sweden also played 40 games for Rockford in the 2015-16 season with 15 points (1G, 14A). In 124 career games with the IceHogs Svedberg has compiled 38 points (6G, 32A).
Rockford’s training camp roster now consists of 22 forwards, 12 defensemen, and four goaltenders.
