The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired goaltender
Hannu Toivonen (HA-noo, TOI-voh-nuhn) and defenseman Danny Richmond from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for goaltender Joe Fallon and have assigned both players to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

“Hannu and Danny will add great depth to our Rockford team and will have an immediate impact on their roster,” Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman said. “I am happy with this move because it bolsters what is already a strong IceHogs lineup.”

Toivonen, 25, has notched an 11-11-3 record with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in 26 games with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen this season. He last appeared in the NHL during the 2007-08 campaign with the Blues, accruing a 6-10-5 mark in 23 outings.

He was originally acquired by St. Louis in exchange for Carl Soderberg on July 23, 2007 before signing with the organization as a free agent on July 9, 2009.

Danny Richmond
