General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have acquired forward Andrew Ladd from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Tuomo Ruutu.

Ladd, 23, stands at 6.02 and weighs in at 201 pounds. He was Carolina’s 1st round pick (4th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft from the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League.

Andrew Ladd is a very good young forward who won a Stanley Cup with Carolina as a 20-year old,” said General Manager Dale Tallon. “We acquired a very good young player in Andrew Ladd and in doing so had to give up a good young player in Tuomo Ruutu.”

Ladd has appeared in 43 games for the Hurricanes this season scoring 9 goals to go along with 9 assists for 18 points with 31 penalty minutes. In his NHL career, Ladd has played in 137 games scoring 26 goals while adding 24 assists for 50 points with 81 penalty minutes.

Ladd has also appeared in 17 career playoff games, all in the 2006 playoffs, scoring 2 goals to go along with 3 assists for 5 points with 4 penalty minutes in helping the Carolina Hurricanes to win the Stanley Cup.

Tuomo Ruutu was the Blackhawks’ 1st round pick (9th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He had appeared in 60 games for the Blackhawks this season scoring 6 goals and 15 assists for 21 points with 75 penalty minutes.

In his NHL career, Ruutu has appeared in 228 games scoring 48 goals to go along with 60 assists for 108 points with 259 penalty minutes. Ruutu has never played in an NHL playoff game.
