The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired forward David Toews (TAYVZ) from the New York Islanders in exchange for future considerations. He has been added to the organization’s roster for the 2011 Toronto Maple Leafs Rookie Tournament this weekend at General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ontario.

Toews, 21, recorded 20 goals, 28 assists and 16 penalty minutes in 60 regular-season contests with the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings during the 2011-12 campaign. He also ranked third on the club with five helpers and fifth with seven points (2G, 5A) in six WHL postseason tilts.

Originally selected by the Islanders in the third round (66th overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Toews spent two seasons at the University of North Dakota, notching nine goals and 17 assists in 55 NCAA games with the Fighting Sioux from 2008-10. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, he is the younger brother of Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.
