BARONS HAND ICEHOGS 3-1 DEFEAT
Hogs finish road trip with 2-3-1-0 record
Oklahoma City, Okla. – A holiday break might be just what the Rockford IceHogs need. Despite remaining atop the Midwest Division standings, the IceHogs dropped their second straight game in Oklahoma City to the Barons 3-1.
Rockford has lost their last three contests to complete a six game road trip with a 2-3-1-0 record.
For the second straight game it was the Barons getting on the board first. Bogdan Yakimov setup Curtis Hamilton and he fired two shots at Scott Darling with the second one sneaking past the IceHogs goaltender to give Oklahoma City a 1-0 lead in the first period.
The Barons extended the lead in the middle frame and pushed the score to 2-0. Brandon Davidson dished a pass back to Joshua Winquist and he ripped a shot that found the back of the net 5:28 into the period.
Rockford quickly responded to cut the lead in half just 26 seconds later. Brandon Mashinter fired a shot that Laurent Brossoit blocked down. After a scramble resulted in front of the Barons cage, Mashinter located the loose puck and flipped it in while he was falling to the ice to bring the score to 2-1.
That was all the IceHogs were able to muster as Brossoit held strong the rest of the way. The Barons got a bit of luck late in the second as a Andrew Miller pass defelcted off Mashinter’s stick and in to seal Rockford’s fate.
The IceHogs return home with the next three games at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
