Rockford, Ill. – As the quest for the 2012 Calder Cup continues, the final four field is set with the four top seeds in the American Hockey League advancing to the Conference Finals.
The St. John’s IceCaps moved on to the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday night after knocking off the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with a 3-2 victory in game 7 to take the series 4-3. The IceCaps now move on to meet the Eastern Conference’s top seed in the Norfolk Admirals.
Norfolk reeled off 28 straight wins heading into the Calder Cup playoffs and then knocked off the Manchester Monarchs in four games (3-1) and the Connecticut Whale in six games (4-2) to reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Western Conference Finals will see another one and two seed matchup with the Oklahoma City Barons facing off against the Toronto Marlies.
The West’s best team in the Oklahoma City Barons battled their way through the Houston Aeros in four games (3-1) and San Antonio Rampage in five games (4-1) to reach the conference finals.
The Marlies, led by Jerry D’Amigo’s league best six goals, swept the Rochester Americans in three games (3-0) before ousting Abbotsford 4-1 to get to their matchup with Oklahoma City.
