AHL ANNOUNCES ICEHOGS OPPONENTS FOR 2008-09
Hogs to play 60 games against West Division teams
Rockford, Ill.- The American Hockey League announced the 2008-09 schedule format for the Rockford IceHogs on Friday during the annual league meetings in Hilton Head, S.C. The ’08-09 campaign will once again feature 80 regular season games, including 40 at home and 40 on the road.
The Divisional alignments will remain the same from the 2007-08 season, meaning the IceHogs will compete in the eight-team West Division. Rockford will play each opponent the same number of times on the road as at home.
The IceHogs will play four of their division rivals 10 times overall in ’08-09 including the Chicago Wolves, Iowa, Milwaukee Admirals and Peoria Rivermen. Rockford also gets matched up with the Quad City Flames eight times and six games apiece with the Houston Aeros and San Antonio Rampage.
Rockford’s divisional opponents will make up 60 of the club’s 80 regular season games. The IceHogs will be slated to face off against North Division foes 16 times including twice each against the Lake Erie Monsters, Rochester Americans, Syracuse Crunch and Toronto Marlies. Rockford will play the Grand Rapids Griffins and Manitoba Moose four times each. The only Western Conference team that Rockford won’t face in ’08-09 is the Hamilton Bulldogs.
The new schedule will also have Rockford playing four games in the Eastern Conference, all against the same opponent. Rockford will play the Norfolk Admirals twice on the road and twice at the Rockford MetroCentre. Prior to the ’07-08 season, the Chicago Blackhawks first campaign with their AHL affiliation in Rockford, Norfolk housed Chicago’s top prospects.
