ADS USE THREE-GOAL FIRST TO PUNCH HOLE THROUGH HOGS
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Dennis Gilbert scored less than 40 seconds in the game, but the Milwaukee Admirals reeled off three unanswered goals before the end of the first period to upend the Rockford IceHogs 4-2 Friday night at UW-Panther Arena.
Gilbert cashed in on a rebound on a shot from Andreas Martinsen. Martinsen’s blast kicked off the leg pad of netminder Troy Grosenick and slid right to the awaiting Gilbert. The Hogs blueliner then buried a shot in the back of the net to give the IceHogs a 1-0 lead 36 seconds into the game.
With the tally, Gilbert has now scored three goals over his last eight games after beginning the campaign with just one tally through his first 46 contests.
Colin Blackwell erased the Rockford lead just 72 seconds later and Joe Pendenza beat Anton Forsberg at 6:04 into the game to give the Admirals a 2-1 advantage.
The feverish start to the game then came to a grinding halt for a “delay on the ice.” Both teams were eventually sent back to their locker rooms while arena staff worked to repair a hole in the ice in front of Milwaukee’s bench.
Once play resumed, Milwaukee capped its three-goal first period with a tally at 14:33 in the opening frame.
Victor Ejdsell pulled Rockford within 3-2 early in the third period with a power-play goal, but Anthony Richard responded just 1:10 later to put the game out of reach for the Hogs.
