3-GOAL THIRD PROPELS HOGS PAST GRIFFINS
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Laurent Dauphin scored at 9:40 of the third period to give the Rockford IceHogs a lead they would not relinquish, as they came back from two, two –goal deficits to defeat the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3 at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Dauphin’s goal was one of three Rockford tallies in the final frame. Matthew Highmore and Erik Gustafsson also each scored in the third to help erase a 3-1 Griffins lead and set the stage for Dauphin’s game-winner.
Rockford scored each of its four goals on the power play.
Grand Rapids initially opened the scoring with a Matt Puempel strike seven minutes into the game. The Griffins then widened their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Axel Holmstrom late in the stanza.
Highmore scored his first goal of the game less than a minute into the second period to get the Hogs on the board. Matheson Iacopelli then appeared to tie the game, but the goal was waved off due to a delayed penalty on the Hogs.
Grand Rapids’ Matthew Ford then potted a goal on the ensuing power play to make it 3-1 Griffins at the end of the second period.
Rockford’s Jeff Glass shut the door the rest of the way, stopping 17 total pucks in his second win of the season. Grand Rapids’ goalie Jared Coreau made 35 saves at the other end.
