2016 NHL DRAFT: IMPACT IN ROCKFORD
Rockford, Ill. – Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman and his hockey operations crew will travel to Buffalo, New York locked and loaded with seven selections in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft on Friday and Saturday.
With those picks, the Blackhawks will look to solidify the future of the organization. The end result is to add to an already proven core group of players in Chicago. However, with the stockpile of talent already in Chicago, a majority of the selections made this weekend will eventually begin their hockey careers in the American Hockey League in Rockford to be groomed for the next level.
Since 2007, the IceHogs have played a key role in developing Blackhawks prospects to get them ready to make the jump to the NHL. This past season, 16 Blackhawks draft picks spent time in Rockford.
The 2015-16 season saw 43 different skaters in an IceHogs sweater, with 28 of them coming from the draft (65.1%), including 16 selected by the Blackhawks (37.2%). In total, 65 Blackhawks draft picks have suited up for the IceHogs across nine seasons.
Therefore the 2016 NHL draft will give IceHogs fans a glimpse of some of the players that may lace up their skates at the BMO Harris Bank Center down the road.
