The 2014-15 schedule officially kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 11 as the IceHogs take on Midwest Division rival Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at the BMO. The first 5,000 fans through the gates for the border battle with the Admirals will receive an IceHogs season calendar courtesy of Stateline Staffing Services.
There is plenty in store for every fan this season as the IceHogs home slate is packed with plenty of exciting matchups, promotions and giveways spanning from opening weekend all the way through April’s playoff push. The Hogs will renew their rivalry with the Chicago Wolves on Saturday, Oct. 25, and will square off with their intrastate foes six times on home ice.
The fun is not limited to the BMO ice surface, as there are plenty of theme nights scheduled which are sure to be a hit for the whole family. November is once again “Brovember”, and the IceHogs are set to celebrate all things unshaven during a pair of games that will benefit and raise awareness for men’s health initiatives in the area; all while the players take the ice sporting facial hair. On Wednesday, Nov. 26 the stage will be set to break a world record for the most mustachioed-men in one place at the BMO as Rockford takes on the Iowa Wild. During that game, as well as two days later on Nov. 28, when they take on Chicago, the IceHogs will be donning special Brovember jerseys - some of which will be available via auction - with proceeds benefiting men’s health.
Fans who love freebies will not be disappointed either, as the IceHogs’ home schedule boasts over 15 different giveaways. Collectables up for grabs this season range from the functional (Fleece Blanket Giveaway, Friday Jan. 9), to the bizarre (IceHogs Garden Gnome Giveaway, Saturday April 4) and everywhere in between. The first 2,500 fans to the Saturday, Feb. 7 contest against the Wolves will leave with a Jeremy Morin Bobblehead, Rockford’s 2013-14 MVP, presented by Dental Dimensions.
2014-15 signifies the 16th season of professional hockey in Rockford; the eighth as the AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks. During the team’s first seven years as the Blackhawks’ primary affiliate, 48 different players have advanced from the IceHogs to the NHL, including current Chicago standouts Corey Crawford, Andrew Shaw and Nick Leddy. Eighteen former IceHogs have gone on to win hockey’s ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup.
