Hogs roster takes shape one week before opener
Chicago, Ill.- The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Saturday that goalie Hannu Toivonen has been assigned to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.
In addition, Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced that the IceHogs have released goalie Danny Battochio from his training camp tryout.
Toivonen was acquired in March by the Blackhawks from the St. Louis Blues and played in six games with Rockford. The Kalvola, Finland native had a record 1-4-0 with the IceHogs with a .883 save percentage and a 3.44 goals against average.
Before his trade to the Blackhawks organization, Toivonen blocked pucks for the Peoria Rivermen and was 11-11-3 with a .906 SPCT and 2.73 GAA. Toivonen was the Boston Bruins first round pick (#29 overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Battochio is in his second season at the professional level and played in two preseason games for Rockford. The Sudbury, Ont. Native earned the win in Rockford’s 5-4 shootout victory over Peoria on Tuesday at the MetroCentre.
Rockford’s training camp roster now features 24 players including 15 forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 vs. Manitoba Moose. The puck is set to drop at 4:35 p.m. The IceHogs begin the 2010-11 season against the Manitoba Moose and the first 5,000 fans will receive a 2010-11 IceHogs Magnet Schedule courtesy of U.S. Cellular, Dental Dimensions, Guerilla Graffix and the Illinois Pork Producers. Before the game on Saturday there is a fan festival from 1-4 p.m. where fans can enjoy music, food and entertainment.
