IceHogs take two on the road in Week 2

Week 2 Recap
A season-beginning five game stretch against West Division foes came to a close for the Rockford IceHogs. The American Hockey League club skated away with two wins in Week 2 to start the season 4-1-0-0. The IceHogs have jumped out to the solid start despite ranking last in shots per game in the league but tenth in goals scored. Rockford has three more games on the schedule for Week 3.

-The IceHogs have not outshot an opponent yet this season, but are 4-1-0-0 after five games

-Rockford is being outshot 162-124 overall and are ranked last with 24.80 shots on goal per game

-Rockford’s 2.40 goals against average is fifth best in the AHL

-The IceHogs have at least one power-play goal in each of their first five games, going 10-37 (27.0%) ranking them third in the AHL

-Troy Brouwer assisted on three goals on Friday in Iowa for the first time since Dec. 15, 2006, his rookie season with the Norfolk Admirals

-Defenseman Cam Barker has a goal in three straight games

-After starting the season with five straight games within the division, Rockford will play six of its next eight outside the division

Winger Rob Klinkhammer (1g-2a) chipped in his second career three point game on Friday against Iowa

Antti Niemi has recorded 34 saves in two of his first three starts with the IceHogs

Defenseman Jason Lepine was released from his PTO on Sunday after getting loaned to Rockford from the Bloomington PrarieThunder (IHL) on Saturday

Hot Hog Week 2:
Troy Brouwer helped lead Rockford to a 2-0-0-0 week during Week 2 of the AHL regular season. Brouwer began the weekend with a “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” against the Iowa Chops accumulating four points overall in Rockford’s 6-3 win. On Saturday, Brouwer set up a goal as the IceHogs ruined the Milwaukee Admirals home opener 4-3 in a shootout.

Upcoming Games:
Friday, Oct. 24 vs. Norfolk Admirals: Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Norfolk Admirals come into the Rockford MetroCentre for the first of two straight against the IceHogs. The weekend set marks the only time during the 2008-09 regular season that the Hogs will face an Eastern Conference team at home. The first 2,500 fans will pick up an IceHogs Proud Supporter Sticker.

Saturday, Oct. 25 vs. Norfolk Admirals. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. For the second straight night the IceHogs and Admirals face-off at the MetroCentre. The game is the second of four on the season between the two clubs. The first 3,500 fans to the game will pick up a red long sleeve T-shirt courtesy of Lincoln Rent-All, Rock River Bank, Dental Dimensions and Guerilla Graffix.

Sunday, Oct. 26 at Chicago Wolves. The rivalry resumes at 3 p.m. This seasons first edition of the IceHogs-Wolves rivalry commences at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. After 17 games between the two clubs in 2007-08, Sunday’s game is the first of 10 between the two teams in 2008-09.

Hog Talk Returns Tonight At Cousin’s Bar and Grill:
Bud Light Hog Talk returns for its second show of the season tonight at Cousin’s Bar and Grill. Join Jim Stone from 6-7 p.m. at Cousin’s as he chats IceHogs hockey and Hogs head coach Bill Peters. Tonight’s show will also feature winger Troy Brouwer and rookie defenseman Mike Brennan. Stop out to Cousin’s, located on the corner of East State St. and Perryville in Rockford, and take advantage of some great food and Bud Light specials. If you can’t make it out to Cousin’s, tune into 1330 AM, WNTA.
