ICEHOGS AGREE TO ONE-YEAR EXTENSION WITH TOMKINS, SIGN OLOFSSON TO ATO

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs today announced they have agreed to terms with goaltender Matt Tomkins on a one-year AHL contract extension through the 2019-20 season. In addition, the IceHogs have also signed forward Fredrik Olofsson to an amateur tryout contract (ATO).

Tomkins, 24, has spent the 2018-19 campaign with the Fuel, posting a 25-17-2 record with two shutouts, a 3.03 GAA and .905 save percentage in 47 ECHL games. He currently leads the league in minutes (2,793) and ranks second in both wins and total saves. The second-year netminder has also won the CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week award three times this season, most recently earning the honors on Jan. 29 after going 2-0-0 with one shutout over two starts on Jan. 25 and 26.

The Edmonton, Alberta native has limited opponents to two or fewer goals in 21 appearances with the Fuel this season and made 30+ saves in 21 games as well. He enters Thursday unbeaten in regulation over his last four games with a 3-0-1 clip and just three total goals allowed in that stretch.

Overall, Tomkins is 36-26-2 with two shutouts in 72 career ECHL games with Indy over the last two seasons. He also made his AHL debut with the IceHogs on Dec. 20 at Chicago last season and posted a 1-4-2 record, 4.04 GAA and .871 save percentage over eight AHL appearances.

Tomkins was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Olofsson, 22, recently completed his senior season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he tallied a career-high 34 points (10g, 24a) in 36 games as an alternate captain. The 6-2, 197-lbs forward led the Mavericks in assists, finished second in overall scoring last season and capped the year with nine multi-point efforts. He also posted a season-high seven-game point streak with 11 points (6g, 5a) from Nov. 3 – Dec. 1.

The Helsingborg, Sweden native has logged 20+ points during each of his last three seasons at Nebraska-Omaha, including scoring double-digit goals as both a sophomore and senior. Overall, he totaled 95 points (35g, 60a) in 137 collegiate games during his four-year tenure with the Mavericks from 2015-19.

Olofsson was originally selected by Chicago in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
