EVAN MOSEY TO JOIN GREAT BRITAIN FOR IIHF DIVISION I CHAMPIONSHIPS
Rockford, Ill. – The Rockford IceHogs finished their 2016-17 campaign on Saturday, Apr. 15, but the IceHogs are still represented around the hockey landscape.
Evan Mosey is extending his season by joining the Great Britain team for the IIHF Division I Group B World Championships. The British national team kicks off their tournament run on Sunday, April 23, against Croatia. The tournament features a single round-robin format in which each team plays every other team once. The team with the most points will be promoted to Division I Group A. Mosey skated in 41 games for Rockford this season, collecting 4g-5a-9pts.
A native of Downers Grove, Ill., Mosey is eligible to play for Great Britain due to the nationality of his father, Graham Mosey. Additionally, the 28 year old spent two seasons (2014-16) with the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League and helped Nottingham to an EIHL championship last season.
Around the National Hockey League scene, the IceHogs have representation on nine of the 16 teams that qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The bulk of those players are with Rockford’s parent club, the Chicago Blackhawks. Those players include Kyle Baun, Corey Crawford, Scott Darling, Gustav Forsling, Jeff Glass, Erik Gustafsson, Ryan Hartman, Vinnie Hinostroza, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Tanner Kero, Marcus Kruger, Tyler Motte, Dennis Rasmussen, Trevor van Riemsdyk and Nick Schmaltz. Rasmussen scored his first career Stanley Cup Playoffs goal last night against the Nashville Predators.
Baun, Forsling, Glass, Gustafsson, Hinostroza, Kero, Motte and Schmaltz all spent time with the IceHogs this season before joining Chicago for the playoffs.
Chicago’s Central Division Rival, the St. Louis Blues, are battling with the Minnesota Wild in the opening round of the postseason. Former IceHogs goaltender Carter Hutton is the backup to starter Jake Allen.
The other Western Conference team whose roster features a former Hog is Calgary, in both Troy Brouwer and Kris Versteeg, who are competing to help the Flames top the Anaheim Ducks. Brouwer holds the record for most goals in a single season in Rockford’s AHL history, striking 35 times in the 2007-08 season.
In the Eastern Conference, four of the eight teams have a former IceHog on the roster. Ben Smith is a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jimmy Hayes is with the Boston Bruins and Brandon Saad and Ryan Stanton are looking to help the Columbus Blue Jackets to their first-ever postseason series win. Chris DiDomenico, who played parts of the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons with Rockford, made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators in March and has continued with the team into the postseason.
The New York Rangers are taking on the Montreal Canadiens in the opening round, and both rosters feature former Hogs. Phil Danault and Andrew Shaw are both with Montreal, while the Rangers roster features defenseman Adam Clendenning, who is second all-time among IceHogs defensemen with 118 points, as well as Kevin Klein. Additionally, former IceHogs goaltender Antti Raanta plays a backup role to starter Henrik Lundqvist.
