Bergevin Promoted To Director of Player Personnel

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the promotion of Marc Bergevin to Director of Player Personnel.
Bergevin, 43, served as an assistant coach on Joel Quenneville’s staff last season, helping the Blackhawks reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 14 years. The 2009-10 campaign will mark his fourth in Chicago’s front office, the first three of which were on the scouting staff, which includes a stint as the Director of Professional Scouting.
In his current role, the Montreal native will oversee both the pro and amateur scouting departments while monitoring the progress of the organization’s prospects, reporting directly to Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman.
“We are excited to promote Marc into this role,” Bowman said. We are very confident he will have a successful transition as we continue to strengthen our hockey operations department.”
Originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the third round (60th overall) of the 1983 Entry Draft, Bergevin spent 20 seasons in the National Hockey League as a defenseman, collecting 181 points (36 goals, 145 assists) in 1,191 games with Chicago (1984-89), the New York Islanders (1989-09), Hartford Whalers (1990-92), Tampa Bay Lightning (1992-95; 2002-03), Detroit Red Wings (1995-96), St. Louis Blues (1996-2001; 2001-02) and Pittsburgh Penguins (2000-01; 2002-03).
Bergevin also skated in 80 career Stanley Cup Playoff contests with five different teams, recording nine points (three goals, six assists) and 52 penalty minutes.
