Some memorable dates this week in Blackhawks history

  • Hall of Fame goalie Glenn Hall got the first of three scoreless ties in a Hawks uniform on December 28, 1957 at the Stadium against Boston. He recorded his second at Toronto on December 27, 1961.

  • Then-rookie Kris Versteeg notched the second three-point game (1 G, 2 A) of his career in a 4-1 win at Minesota on December 28, 2008.

  • Eventual rookie of the year Steve Larmer tied a team record by picking up four points (1 G, 3 A) in an 8-6 victory over Wayne Gretzky's Edmonton Oilers on December 29, 1982.
  • The Blackhawks established a team record with seven straight road triumphs, a run which concluded on December 29, 1964 with a 4-2 win over New York.
  • On December 30, 1987, Troy Murray scored a penalty shot during a 4-1 decision over the Minnesota North Stars. It remains the Blackhawks' latest home penalty shot goal.

  • A team record for the fastest two goals by two teams came on the same date in 1979 at the Stadium when Boston's Peter McNab scored and Grant Mulvey replied four seconds later.

  • On New Year's Eve in 1952, Montreal's Maurice "The Rocket" Richard set an NHL record by scoring on a penalty shot just 12 seconds into a game at the Stadium when he beat Hawks goalie Harry Lumley during a 3-0 Canadiens win. There wasn't another penalty shot at the Stadium for 10 years, until January 31, 1962, when Glenn Hall stopped Detroit's Bruce McGregor.

  • Denis Savard got the 11th hat trick of his Blackhawks career on December 31, 1989 at the Stadium in a 7-3 whipping of Hartford.

  • On January 1, 1931, Chicago recorded the first double-digit score in team history by crushing the Philadelphia Quakers 10-3; Frank Ingram became the first Blackhawk to score four goals in a game, as well.

  • The first penalty shot in team history occured on the same date in 1936, when Chicago's Paul Thompson scored on Detroit netminder Norm Smith.

  • On New Year's Day in 2009 at the NHL Winter Classic, Kris Versteeg scored the first goal ever at Wrigley Field - 3:24 into the first period - in the battle with the Red Wings.
