While there has been a lot of focus on this season's crop of rookies, and rightfully so, it's a second-year standout who walks away with the NHL's First Star honors this week.

Tyler Seguin, taken with the No. 2 pick in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins, is this week's First Star, followed by Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard and Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews.

Seguin extended his current points streak to five games with 2 goals and 1 assist in Saturday's 6-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres. Seguin has 6 goals in his last four games and 11 for the season, tying him for second in the League, one behind Phil Kessel. Seguin also leads the League with a plus-14 rating.

Howard is now tied for first with three shutouts after picking up two in his past four starts and surrendering just four goals total over that span. Howard helped the Red Wings turn things around by blanking the Anaheim Ducks and Edmonton Oilers, and giving up just two goals in wins against the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars. Howard has a .960 save percentage during his current run.

Toews contributed a pair of multi-goal efforts in the past week, including Sunday's 6-3 win against the Oilers. His second goal in the opening minute of the second period proved to be the game-winner. Toews has a three-game points streak going, compiling 4 goals and 2 assists over that span. The Blackhawks have won each of those games and sit atop the Western Conference standings.
