RECAP: Crevier Scores OT Winner in Regular Season Finale

ROSEMONT, Ill.—The Rockford IceHogs concluded the I-90 rivalry this season with a 3-2 overtime win against the Chicago Wolves on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena. Louis Crevier netted the overtime winner for his third goal of the season. Rookies Martin Misiak and Nick Lardis made their AHL debuts today in Rockford sweaters.

After a scoreless third period, the 2-2 contest required the extra frame to decide a winner. With a feed from Luke Philp, Louis Crevier slipped the game-winning goal between Chicago netminder Adam Scheel’s legs with a wrister from the right circle to seal the 3-2 overtime win (0:37).

Rockford finished the season 8-3-1-0 against Chicago and won the last eight contests of the season series.

With the overtime win, Rockford needs Milwaukee to beat Grand Rapids in regulation later on Sunday in order for the Hogs to maintain second place in the division standings. Rockford made the jump from third to second with their two points today.

Recording his fifth goal of the season, Antti Saarela gave the IceHogs a 1-0 lead in the first period after catching a tumbling cross-ice pass from Ryder Rolston and netting a wrister from the right circle that skittered past the blocker side of Scheel (8:27).

Rockford finished the first frame with a 2-0 lead when Lukas Reichel corralled Philp’s pass from the left circle and fed a backhanded centering pass for Michal Teply to tally his 12th score of the season, chipping the puck behind Scheel from the edge of the crease (19:05).

With 30 seconds left in the first period, Josh Healey was charged with a roughing minor, and the Wolves started the second stanza on the man advantage (19:30).

Chicago capitalized on the early power play, and Hudson Elynuik angled a backhanded pass from below the red line to the slot where Josh Melnick punched the disc past Drew Commesso’s blocker to cut the lead in half to 2-1 (1:17).

Keeping the momentum early in the middle period, the Wolves erased Rockford’s lead and tied the contest 2-2 after Chris Terry stuffed Max Comtois’ centering pass past Commesso’s glove side (4:04).

Commesso earned the win in the Hogs’ last game of the regular season with 32 saves on 34 Chicago shots, and Scheel stopped 24 of 27 Rockford shots but was tagged with the loss.

The IceHogs and Griffins will clash on April 27 at 7 p.m., presented by BMO, in what will either be Game One or Game Two of the best-of-five series, depending on how the teams finish in the final weekend of the regular season ending this Sunday.
