ICEHOGS DROP 7-ROUND SHOOTOUT

Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs (7-10-1-2) battled back in the third period but fell 5-4 to the Manitoba Moose (10-7-1-1) in a seven-round shootout Wednesday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Brendan Lemieux scored the only shootout goal in the seventh round to lift Manitoba over Rockford.

Martin Lundberg scored two goals in the first period and Tanner Kero recorded a goal and an assist to lead the IceHogs offensively. The contest marked the third time in four games an IceHogs player had a multi-goal effort.

With the IceHogs trailing 3-2 heading into the third, Kero capitalized when the puck bounced onto his stick along the goal line and he quickly slid it past Manitoba goaltender Eric Comrie to tie the game at 3-3. It was the first of two power-play goals in the period for Rockford.

Jack Roslovic put the Moose back on top when he polished off an unassisted strike at 9:29 to give Manitoba a 4-3 lead. Less than two-and-a-half minutes later, Viktor Svedberg scored on the power play to force extra time.

Lundberg notched back-to-back tallies early in the contest to boost the IceHogs to a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. Lundberg, with help from Robin Norell and Spencer Abbott, deflected a shot past Comrie to get the IceHogs on the scoreboard. Lundberg rounded out the frame and notched another tally from a pass by Kero to give Rockford a 2-0 lead headed into the second frame.

Manitoba erased their two-goal deficit in a span of just 24 seconds in the second period. First, Kevin Czuczman wound a puck through traffic that just slid over the line for a power-play tally at 8:46 of the second. Ryan Olsen followed it up when he took advantage of a deflected pass at 9:10 to even the score.

Peter Stoykewych capped off the second-period scoring when his shot snuck in the bottom right corner of the net. Following the goal, Mac Carruth took over in the cage for Lars Johansson.

Carruth turned away 15 out of the 16 shots he faced.
