Rockford ends road trip with a win over San Antonio

San Antonio, Tex.-
After a quick stint with the Chicago Blackhawks, it didn’t take Carter Hutton long to get back into his rhythm with the Rockford IceHogs. The goalie helped propel Rockford to a 3-0 win over the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday, ending the team’s two-game losing streak.

Hutton made 26 saves to earn his third shutout of the season while Rockford outshot their counterparts 41-26.

Moments after San Antonio had a power-play goal disallowed because Bracken Kearns was ruled to have kicked the puck in, Rockford struck shorthanded. Jeremy Morin stripped a puck at the Rampage blueline and beat Dov Grumet-Morris on a breakaway at 11:23 of the first period to give the IceHogs a 1-0 first period lead.

The second period was up and down as both teams had solid offensive opportunities. Hutton and Grumet-Morris were solid, however, and the score held 1-0 heading into the third period.

Rockford stretched their lead to 2-0 in the final period. Matt Fornataro cleaned up a Brian Fahey rebound in transition and poked home his eighth goal of the season under Grumet-Morris at the 13:00 mark.

The Hogs finished off the Rampage with an empty-net marker at 18:54. Rostislav Olesz selflessly passed an open ice feed to Peter LeBlanc on a 2-0 break and LeBlanc dumped his 22nd goal of season into an open San Antonio goal.
