Week 3 Recap:
In the Rockford IceHogs first split home and away weekend of the season, they faced off against the Chicago Wolves at the All-State Arena on Friday where they grabbed an Illinois Lottery Cup victory. The Hogs came alive late on Saturday night, scoring two goals to tie the game 4-4 and take it into overtime and then a shootout. Rockford scored three out of the five shooters in the skills session to lead them to the victory. The IceHogs will begin their first four game week of the season.
-In two games in Week 3, Rockford scored four goals in the final 2:10 of the third period
-After leading the AHL with 12 third period come-from-behind wins in 2012-13, Rockford earned their first comeback victory in 2013-14 on Saturday against Grand Rapids
-Winger Jeremy Morin had a goal and an assist in both games during Week 3 and totaled 16 shots on goal
-Morin now has at least one shot on goal in an IceHogs team record 134 straight games, dating back to Nov. 9, 2011
-Rookie center Phillip Danault scored his first career goal on Saturday against Grand Rapids, tying the game with 1:11 left in regulation
-The IceHogs played in their first shootout of the season on Saturday, topping Grand Rapids 5-4
-Rockford has not lost a shootout since opening night in 2012-13 when the Chicago Wolves topped them 1-0 on Oct. 13, 2012
-After playing three straight two-game weeks, Rockford will play their first four-game week in Week 4
-The IceHogs home opening night crowd of 6,202 was the largest home opener since the 2007-08 season when Rockford drew 6,436
-The IceHogs have scored four or more goals in their four wins this season and only one goal in each of their losses
-Defenseman Adam Clendening had two assists in both games during Week 3 and shows three multi-point games over the IceHogs first six contests
-Defenseman Klas Dahlbeck scored the game-winning goal in Friday’s win to give him two goals on the season, surpassing his goal output from a season ago in which he played in 70 games
-Former IceHogs goaltender Carter Hutton picked up his first career NHL win in his second career start on Sunday as Nashville topped Winnipeg 3-1
-On Thursday night, both former IceHogs, Brandon Pirri and Ryan Stanton notched their first NHL goals. Pirri with the Chicago Blackhawks and Stanton with the Vancouver Canucks.
Hot Hog: Week 3
Jeremy Morin, Right Wing
Winger Jeremy Morin had a goal and an assist in each of Rockford's wins during Week 3 and totaled 16 shots on goal. Morin started the week with a goal and a helper in Rockford's 5-3 win over the Chicago Wolves while adding a team season-high 10 shots on goal. Then on Saturday, Morin helped propel a 5-4 come-from-behind victory in shootout fashion over Grand Rapids with another two point effort. Morin also notched a shootout goal to help the Hogs down the defending Calder Cup Champions.
Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Hamilton Bulldogs: Puck drops at 6:30 p.m. Rockford has a two game road swing in Canada, with the first stop at the Copps Coliseum. Last season, the Bulldogs got the better of the Hogs, winning the both games in the season series.
Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Toronto Marlies: Game time is 6 p.m. Finishing off a pair of weekday games on the road, Rockford faces the Marlies. Last year, Rockford and Toronto split wins in the season series. Each home team in the season series found themselves on the winning end in 2012-13.
Saturday, Oct. 26 vs. Charlotte Checkers at 3 p.m.: Rockford hosts their second home game of the season when the Checkers come to town. The first 5,000 fans will recieve Magnet Schedules courtesy of T6 Broadband.
Sunday, Oct. 27 vs. Texas Stars at 4 p.m.: Rockford faces the Stars for the second time on the young season. The Stanley Cup will be at the BMO for fans to see and get a picture with. The first 5,000 fans into the building will also pick up a special edition IceHogs Champions poster.
