Hawks' Aldrich Named Video Coach For 2010 U.S. Olympic Team

USA Hockey today named John Tortorella, head coach of the National Hockey League's New York Rangers, and Scott Gordon, head coach of the NHL's New York Islanders, as assistant coaches for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team that will compete in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C.

In addition, USA Hockey announced its support staff for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, including equipment managers Mike Aldrich and Derek Settlemyre; video coordinator Brad Aldrich; trainers Stan Wong and Ray Tufts; physician Dr. Michael Stuart; massage therapist Bruce Lifrieri; and communications contacts Dave Fischer and Gerry Helper.

ABOUT TORTORELLA

Tortorella previously served as head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship in Halifax and Quebec City, Canada, and an associate coach for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2005 IIHF Men's World Championship in Vienna and Innsbruck, Austria.

He recently finished his first year as head coach of the Rangers after being named to that position on Feb. 23, 2009. Prior to the Rangers, Tortorella spent six seasons as head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He led the club to its first-ever Stanley Cup championship in the 2003-04 season and was voted the Jack Adams Award recipient as the league's top coach.
A Boston, Mass., native, Tortorella began his collegiate career at Salem State College before transferring to the University of Maine, where he spent three seasons with the Black Bears. Tortorella began his coaching career with the Virginia Lancers of the American Coast Hockey League (now ECHL) during the 1986-87 season.

ABOUT GORDON

Gordon, most recently an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2009 IIHF Men's World Championship in Bern and Zurich-Kloten, Switzerland, was also a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team.

The 2008-09 season was his first as head coach of the New York Islanders.
In 2007-08, Gordon led the Providence Bruins to the American Hockey League's best regular-season record at 55-18-3, and was named the recipient of the Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL's Coach of the Year. After being promoted to head coach in his third season with Providence for the final nine games, Gordon then spent the next five seasons as the club's head coach.

The Easton, Mass., native played in net for Boston College and posted a career mark of 64-35-3, while leading the Eagles to the 1985 NCAA Men's Frozen Four. Gordon made his NHL debut during the 1986-87 season with the Quebec Nordiques and retired from his playing career following the 1993-94 season.

SUPPORT STAFF DETAIL

Mike Aldrich recently completed his 13th season as equipment manager for the San Jose Sharks and served as equipment manager for the U.S. Men's National Team during the 2003 and 2005 IIHF Men's World Championships and the World Cup of Hockey in 2004.
Settlemyre, the equipment manager for the Philadelphia Flyers, was on the Team USA staff during the 2006 and 2007 IIHF Men's World Championship.

Brad Aldrich recently finished his first year as video coach with the Chicago Blackhawks after spending the previous two seasons as the coordinator of hockey operations/video coordinator at the University of Notre Dame.

Wong was a trainer for the Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers for 16 years and most recently worked as an athletic trainer for the 2009 U.S. Men's National Team.

Tufts has completed 13 years as head athletic trainer with the San Jose Sharks and headed the training staff for the 1997 Western Conference All-Star Team.

Stuart is the chief medical officer for USA Hockey. He served as the team physician for the 1994 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, the 2000 U.S. Men's National Team, the 2001 and 2002 U.S. Men's National Under-18 Teams and the 2003 and 2004 U.S. National Junior Teams.

Lifrieri recently completed his 16th year as massage therapist/assistant trainer for the New York Rangers. He served as massage therapist during the 2004 IIHF Men's World Championship and the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

Fischer is in his fifth year as director of communicatons for USA Hockey. Helper is the senior vice president of communications and development for the Nashville Predators and was a member of USA Hockey's marketing council from 1994-99.
