HAMILTON ADVANCES IN THRILLING FASHION
After being shut out by the Manitoba Moose in Game 6 of the North Division Finals, the Hamilton Bulldogs responded in Game 7 with two tallies, the biggest coming just six seconds into the third overtime frame to knock off Manitoba 2-1 and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Center Dustin Boyd ended the longest Game 7 in American Hockey League history when he won a faceoff, chipped the puck into Manitoba’s zone and then slapped in his first goal of the playoffs to seal the deal.
It was Manitoba that got the scoring started first as Jason Jaffray and Marco Rosa set up Sergei Shirkov to fire in his seventh goal of the playoffs at 10:09 in the first period to give the Moose a 1-0 lead.
Despite putting pressure on Manitoba’s netminder, Eddie Lack, the Bulldogs couldn’t crack him until Nigel Dawes tied the game at 6:24 in the third period.
The Bulldogs find themselves in the Western Conference Finals for the second straight season. In 2010 the Bulldogs were ousted by the Texas Stars 4-1 as the Stars advanced to the Calder Cup Championship.
Hamilton will take on the winner of Milwaukee-Houston matchup after their Game 7 on Tuesday night at 7p.m in Milwaukee.
