Preview: IceHogs Conclude Two Game Set With Texas Tonight

Hogs dropped sixth straight contest
Milwaukee, Wis.- There were bobbleheads, his college band in attendance and his team even donned jerseys that replicated those he wore at the University of Wisconsin. It was only fitting that Blake Geoffrion would go on to steal the show in the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 win over the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night at the Bradley Center.
The rookie winger and reigning AHL Player of the Week tallied a pair of goals and added an assist in the Admirals win. The loss marked the sixth straight game (0-5-1-0) in which Rockford came up empty in the win column.
The IceHogs matched a season-low with just four shots on goal in the first period on Friday. Milwaukee mustered just seven shots on Hannu Toivonen despite getting three power play chances in the frame.
Wade Brookbank put Rockford out front 1-0 with his second goal of the season in the second period. Brian Connelly sent a shot in on goal and Brookbank was there to redirect in the marker at 3:09 past Mark Dekanich.
Milwaukee responded three-minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Linus Klasen found Brett Palin streaking to the Rockford goal and Palin buried his first goal of the campaign at 6:09.
Later in the frame, Geoffrion put the Admirals on top at 17:00. The rookie winger picked up a Jonathan Blum pass and beat Toivonen through traffic from just inside the Rockford blueline for his ninth marker of the season.
Geoffrion added his second goal of the night at 11:46 of the third period. The rookie winger looped the puck through the Rockford zone and snuck his 10th tally of the season past Toivonen.
Rockford responded less than a minute later to cut their deficit down to one. Jeff Taffe fired home his team-leading 14th goal at 12:35 of the third, making it 3-2 Milwaukee. Connelly factored in with his second assist on the night.
Palin would seal the game, however, for Milwaukee with an empty net goal at 19:11 of the final frame.
Toivonen was tagged with the loss after turning away 20 Admirals shots while Dekanich got the win with 26 blocks.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Feb. 5 vs. Abbotsford Heat: Game starts at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the Abbotsford Heat to the MetroCentre for the final time in 2010-11.
