Brodeur recalled to Chicago

Chicago, Ill.- On Friday morning, Mike Brodeur woke up a Pensacola Ice Pilot. By Saturday, he was heading back to the American Hockey League to rejoin the Rockford IceHogs after getting recalled from loan. When he woke up Sunday morning, Brodeur was on his way to the National Hockey League.

Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced on Sunday morning that Brodeur was recalled from the IceHogs to the Blackhawks. The NHL recall is the first of Brodeur’s career and he is expected to back up Patrick Lalime tonight when the Hawks battle the Colorado Avalanche at the United Center.

Brodeur has appeared in two games for Rockford this season and is 1-0-0-0 with a .944 save percentage and a 2.25 goals against average. The fourth year goalie was named the ECHL’s Goalie of the Week for the week ending on Feb. 9 after turning in a 2-0-1-0 with Pensacola. Brodeur is the 15th IceHogs skater to get recalled to Chicago this season.

Chicago goalie Nikolai Khabibulin is still recovering from a sprained knee that he suffered in last Wednesday’s 7-2 win at Columbus. Brodeur was the Blackhawks’ 7th round pick (211th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
