Rockford sweeps four game set, hit the road for three games in Week 26

Week 25 Recap

A four-game winning streak pulled the Rockford IceHogs back to the .500 mark in Week 25, as Rockford knocked off four teams vying for playoff spots in the AHL’s Western Conference. The IceHogs also set a franchise attendance record in Week 25 with two home games remaining on the season slate.

Rockford tallied three total goals in their first five-contests against Hamilton before scoring four in their 4-3 overtime win over the Bulldogs on Friday

The IceHogs began a six-game, 12-day road swing on Sunday in Chicago and will embark on a nine-day road trip beginning Tuesday

Rockford’s road win in Chicago marked the fifth time in nine games this season that the road team won a game in the IceHogs-Wolves season series

Entering this season, the road team had won just six of the 30 all-time regular season match-ups

Winger Rob Klinkhammer shows points in six straight games, totaling 2g-4a-6pts

Klinkhammer is also a +5 in that stretch and now leads Rockford with a plus/minus rating of +11

Jeff Taffe has recorded points in four straight games, accumulating 2g-3a-5pts with a plus/minus rating of +7

Defenseman Jassen Cullimore had a four-game point streak snapped on Sunday after accumulating 2g-5a-7pts with a +6 during his hot stretch

In his 31 games prior to his point streak, Cullimore had two assists and was a -6

Hot Hog: Week 25
Hannu Toivonen Goalie
Goalie Hannu Toivonen went perfect in Week 25, compiling a 3-0-0-0 record while helping Rockford knock off three teams with playoff aspirations. Toivonen posted a 1.95 goals against average and .949 save percentage. The Finnish puck stopper began the week with a 39 save performance against San Antonio in Rockford’s 5-1 win on Wednesday. On Friday, Toivonen made 28 saves to help the IceHogs over Hamilton in overtime. He then followed that up with his most impressive performance of the week, a 44-save effort in a 3-2 overtime win over the Western Conference leading Milwaukee Admirals.

Upcoming Games:
Wednesday, March 30 at Lake Erie Monsters: Face-off is set for 6 p.m. The IceHogs return to the Quicken Loans Arena for the third and final time this season to take on the Monsters. The game kicks off a nine-day road trip for Rockford that concludes on April 6. The game is the fifth of six overall on season between Rockford and Lake Erie.

Friday, April 1 at Oklahoma City Barons: Game starts at 7:05 p.m. Rockford makes their final stop in Oklahoma City to take on the Barons at the Cox Convention. The game is also the final of six on the campaign between the IceHogs and Barons in 2010-11. Rockford split their first two games in Oklahoma City New Year’s weekend.

Sunday, April 3 at Texas Stars: The puck gets on the ice at 5 p.m. The Hogs final road trip continues in Cedar Park, Texas against the Texas Stars. The contest is the sixth and final on the campaign between the two clubs and Rockford is 2-1-1-1 against Texas this season.

Tonight is the final Bud Light Hog Talk of 2010-11 at Swilligan’s Pub located in downtown Rockford at 200 North Church St. Fans can join Mike Peck from 6-7 p.m. as he chats hockey with General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard. Also on the show tonight are forwards Rob Klinkhammer and Kyle Beach. Once again this season, all fans that show up at Hog Talk will have an opportunity to sign-up to win some great prizes courtesy of the IceHogs.
