Chicago, Ill. - The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have acquired defenseman Gustav Forsling from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Adam Clendening.

“We are excited to add Gustav to a strong group of young talent in our organization,” said Vice President/General Manager Stan Bowman. “He was one of the best players at the World Junior Championships a few weeks ago and this season has emerged as a regular contributor in the top professional league in Sweden. He’s an offensive defenseman that plays very well on the power play and has a big shot.”

Forsling, 18, has five points (3G, 2A) in 35 regular-season games with Linkoping of the Swedish Hockey League. The Linkoping, Sweden, native was selected by Vancouver in the fifth round (126th overall) of the 2014 National Hockey League Draft. He led tournament defensemen with eight points (3G, 5A) in seven contests as a member of Team Sweden during the 2015 World Junior Championship and was named a tournament All Star.

Previously, Forsling tallied 18 points (6G, 12A) in 44 regular-season contests with the Linkoping SuperElit team during the 2013-14 season, adding four points (1G, 3A) in two postseason games. He also collected six points (3G, 3A) in five regular-season tilts with the J18 club and one goal in five postseason games.

Clendening, drafted by Chicago in the second round (36th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, has posted two points (1G, 1A) in four career NHL games with the Blackhawks. He has added 118 points (22G, 96A) in 185 career regular-season American Hockey League games from 2012-2015 with the Rockford IceHogs.
