BRETT MCLEAN NAMED TO TEAM CANADA FOR SPENGLER CUP

IceHogs center to participate in the annual tournament

Rockford, Ill.-Hockey Canada announced today that Rockford IceHogs center Brett McLean has been named to Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2011 Spengler Cup, scheduled for December 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland.

McLean, 33, is in his third season with the Chicago Blackhawks organization (2002-04; 2011), and currently serves as one of Rockford’s alternate captains. The Comox, British Columbia native is currently skating in his 13th professional season overall and ranks third on the IceHogs in scoring with 17 points through 22 games.

The centerman has appeared in 385 career National Hockey League games with the Blackhawks Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers, totaling 56g-106a-162pts.

Canada will play in the Cattini Group with HC Vitkovice Steel (CZE) and host HC Davos (SUI). Dinamo Riga (LAT), EHC Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams (GER) and Kloten Flyers (SUI) will play in the Torriani Group. Canada opens the tournament against HC Vitkovice Steel on December 26 (1:15 p.m. CT).

The Spengler Cup, held annually since 1923, is the oldest professional international hockey tournament in the world.

Next Home Game: Saturday, Dec. 10 vs. Grand Rapids: Rockford hosts the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:05 p.m. Saturday marks the Griffins’ final trip to the BMO Harris Bank Center during the 2011-12 regular season. Rockford travels to Grand Rapids on Dec. 14 for the final contest between the two teams.
