Chicago, Ill.- Blackhawks forward Rene Bourque suffered a broken thumb in last night’s 5-3 win over the Red Wings in Detroit. He is expected to be out of the Blackhawks lineup anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.

Bourque suffered the injury while blocking a shot last night in the third period. Bourque scored two goals in last night’s game, both of the shorthanded variety, and added an assist before injuring his thumb. Bourque has scored three goals this season, all shorthanded, while adding five assists for eight points in 16 games.

Bourque became the 9th player in Blackhawks history to score two shorthanded goals in a game. Teammate Patrick Sharp accomplished that feat earlier this season on November 3rd in a 3-2 win at St. Louis.

Patrick Sharp also scored a shorthanded goal for the Blackhawks last night giving the Blackhawks three shorthanded goals in the game and tying their club record of three which had been done three times previously. The Blackhawks scored three shorthanded goals in a game on October 12, 1988 vs. Winnipeg (Savard 2, Hudson), January 25, 1989 at Edmonton (Larmer, Graham, T.Murray), and March 14, 1991 at Los Angeles (Larmer, Graham, Creighton).
