BERTI RETURNED FROM SUSPENSION FRIDAY
Springfield, Mass. – The American Hockey League announced Tuesday that Rockford IceHogs left winger Adam Berti would serve a three game suspension for his actions during Friday’s home game against the Rochester Americans.
Berti sat out games on Saturday against Quad City, Sunday against San Antonio and Tuesday against San Antonio. He will be eligible to play Friday in Grand Rapids.
On Friday, Berti was assessed a match penalty at 20:00 in the third period following a fight with Rochester’s Patrick Kaleta. The resulting suspension fell under rule 47.14 of the American Hockey League Official Rules, which states that a player wearing tape or any other material on his hands may not cause an injury to another player during a fight which he instigated.
No other suspensions have been announced as a result of that game. A total of 176 penalty minutes were issued between the two teams during the game Friday against Rochester, the second most of any IceHogs game this season. The Nov. 11 game against San Antonio had 180 minutes. As of the completion of Tuesday’s AHL games, the IceHogs lead the league in penalty minutes (874). The next closest team is San Antonio at 757 minutes.
Berti has played in 20 games this season for the IceHogs. He has 2 goals and 3 assists with 55 penalty minutes. The Oshawa, Ontario native signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on May 25, 2006.
