Game Preview: IceHogs Conclude Five-Game Road Stretch in Rosemont

Oct 28, 2025
Written By: Nick Lalpuis

Rockford, Il- The Rockford IceHogs conclude a stretch of five consecutive road games this morning with an 11 a.m. puck drop with the Chicago Wolves at All State Arena. The IceHogs look for back-to-back wins after a 4-0 shutout victory over the Colorado Eagles Saturday night where Drew Commesso made 38 saves to record his first shutout of the season.

Three Things To Know:

Commesso Climbs Franchise Leaderboard: The IceHogs picked up a weekend split in Colorado behind Commesso's 38-save shutout performance Saturday night. The shutout was Commesso's 7th career AHL shutout moved him to second All-Time, passing Corey Crawford. The third-year IceHog trails only Michael Leighton who had 10 career shutouts in two seasons with Rockford. Commesso has also moved up to fifth All-Time in saves made with 2,088, passing current Blackhawks netminder Arvid Soderblom. Lastly the 2020 2nd round draft pick has passed Soderblom in All-Time wins with 39, moving into fifth place. Commesso's 38 saves Saturday night is the most saves in a single game since 1/17/25 against the Iowa Wild where he made 41 saves in a 6-3 IceHogs win.

Rockford Rookies Settle In: The IceHogs are again gaining attention from around the hockey world with a handful of notable Chicago Blackhawks prospects settling in during their rookie season. Nick Lardis (2G, 7A) and Oliver Moore (5G, 2A) are off to quick starts leading the team in points. Aidan Thompson (1G, 3A) had recorded two multi-point games to begin the season following a two point outing Saturday in Loveland, CO. Martin Misiak is searching for his first AHL point and is looking stronger in each of his first four games. Other rookies include Connor Mylymok who has two points early on this season and goalie Stanislav Berezhnoy who is 2-0 and has a .944 save percentage in his first two starts.

Thompson's Homecoming: Fort Collins, CO native Aidan Thompson tallied his first goal of the season Saturday night in front of family, friends and former youth coaches in his return to Colorado.  Thompson gave the IceHogs a 2-0 lead with his 2nd period goal. The tally in the middle period was also Thompson's first career AHL goal in the regular season, he scored twice in the Calder Cup Playoffs last spring. The IceHogs' rookie played three seasons at the University of Denver, helping lead the Pioneers to their tenth national championship in 2023-24.

Head It Here First:

Aidan Thompson on settling in with Rockford:

Just to have that experience of last season before coming to camp just makes everything a lot easier. I know everybody, I kind of know the schedule, the routine so I can just focus on the hockey. The guys have been great, they've made it super easy.

The Matchup:

Tale of the Tape: The IceHogs and Wolves meet for the third time in just over a week after the two in-state rivals split their first series last weekend in Rosemont. Rockford took the first game of the season series with a 3-2 overtime victory with Dominic Toninato netting the overtime winner. The IceHogs then dropped the Sunday afternoon contest in a high-scoring 6-5 loss where Nick Lardis recorded a four-point game. Chicago picked up a 4-3 overtime win against the Manitoba Moose Saturday night to improve to 3-0-1 on the year. Chicago will be without a few of their top contributors with Bradley Nadeau and Domenick Fensore have been recalled to the Carolina Hurricanes.
