Game Preview: IceHogs Look For Weekend Sweep of Wolves

Oct 19, 2025
Written By: Nick Lalpuis

Rockford, Il- The Rockford IceHogs will go for the weekend sweep as they conclude their stretch of three games in three days with an afternoon battle against the Chicago Wolves. The IceHogs earned their fourth consecutive victory with a 3-2 overtime win over the Wolves last night in Rosemont. Dominic Toninato scored the overtime winner just 1:35 into the extra frame to power the Hogs to their first 4-0 start since joining the AHL.

Three Things To Know:

Special Teams Prevail: Rockford used yet another strong special teams performance to power a thrilling overtime victory Saturday night. The IceHogs surrendered seven power play opportunities to Chicago, killing off the first six short handed spells before surrendering a power play goal to Felix Unger Sörum in the third period. Rockford is now 15/16 on the penalty kill through the first four games of the young season. The IceHogs were able to tally a pair of power play goals with Nick Lardis finding the back of the net in the middle period and Toninato scoring the game winner on a 4-on-3 Rockford advantage. The IceHogs now have three power play goals on the season, operating at 27.3%

Road Hogs: The IceHogs will spend the rest of October playing away from the BMO Center as they conclude the weekend set in Rosemont this afternoon. The Hogs will travel to Loveland, CO to battle the Colorado Eagles next weekend and then conclude the month with an 11 a.m. puck drop in Rosemont against the Wolves on Oct. 28. The IceHogs posted a blank-blank record away from Rockford last season.

Don't Poke The Bear: Rockford got a dazzling performance between the pipes from Stanislav Berezhnoy who made 38 saves in the overtime victory. Berezhnoy, 22, kept the IceHogs in the game when he stopped all 19 shots he faced in the second period. In a change of pace from Rockford's 6-2 victory over the Iowa Wild in Berezhnoy's debut, the IceHogs relied on their rookie netminder to make show-stopping saves down the stretch to send the game into overtime. Through the first four games of the season, Rockford's goalie tandem has a combined 1.71 GAA and .949 save percentage.

The Matchup:

Tale of the Tape: The IceHogs have now surpassed their overtime win total from last season, with a 3-0 start in the extra period. The win comes as the Wolves opened up their home schedule of the 2025-26 season, falling to 1-1 on the season. Gleb Trikozov and Felix Unger Sörum found the back of the net for Chicago in their home opener. Unger Sörum leads the Wolves early on with two goals and Domenick Fensore leads the way with four total points (1G, 2A). With the primary assist on Lardis' goal, Oliver Moore leads the way for Rockford through four games with six points (4G,2A). Lardis, Dillon Boucher, and Brett Seney are all tied with four points on the campaign. Wolves goaltender Nikita Quapp made 18 saves in last nights contest, facing 21 shots. Amir Miftakhov started the season opener for Chicago when they took down the Iowa Wild last weekend. Miftakhov went 22/23 in Des Moines. The former Tampa Bay Lightening draft pick posted a 13-11-3 record last season with Kazan Ak- Bears in the KHL.
