D.J. Jones MS, ATCHead Athletic Trainer
The 2016-17 season is DJ’s 11th with the IceHogs and 10th with the Chicago Blackhawks.
DJ completed his bachelor’s degree (physical education, sports medicine/athletic training) from the State University of New York College at Brockport in 2003, and his master’s degree (exercise physiology) from Ithaca College in 2005.
DJ joined the Rockford IceHogs for the 2006-2007 season and was part of the Colonial Cup Championship during the team’s final season in the United Hockey League. During the Chicago Blackhawks 2010, 2013, and 2015 Stanley Cup Championship seasons, DJ, alongside IceHogs Strength & Conditioning Coach Shane Lawson, and Head Equipment Manager Russ Holden, was responsible for day-to-day coverage of the “Black Aces.”
Prior to working in professional hockey DJ worked for several private emergency medicine companies throughout upstate New York while finishing his undergraduate and graduate studies. DJ, also prior to coming to Rockford, served as athletic trainer for the SUNY Brockport men’s soccer and women’s gymnastics teams (league and conference titles in 2002 & 2003), and the Ithaca College women’s crew national championship team (2005).
DJ’s responsibilities include the coordination of medical care, therapeutic rehabilitation, nutritional support, and injury prevention. DJ is also responsible for the development and coordination of the Rockford IceHogs medical network working alongside IceHogs Chief Medical Advisor & Team Orthopedic Physician, Dr. Geoff Van Thiel of Ortho Illinois.
