When: Fri., Feb. 13 to Sun., Feb. 15
Where: Various rinks across Illinois and the Blackhawks’ Feb. 14 home game at the United Center against the Dallas Stars.
“Hockey Weekend Across America’s” objective is to celebrate hockey and all those involved in the game at all levels and also expose the game to additional audiences to attract more players, coaches, officials, volunteers and fans to the sport.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M., the Hornets Sled Hockey Team will face off against the Leafs Ice Club at Leafs Ice Center (801 Wesemann Dr. in West Dundee). The afternoon includes an appearance from Blackhawks right wing and Madison, Wisconsin native Adam Burish
from 3:30 to 4:30 P.M.
In conjunction with the celebration, 10 participating rinks across Illinois will conduct free public skates, host tournaments and sled hockey games free to the public to encourage people to come out to their local rink and skate. Prior to the Blackhawks Saturday contest at the United Center, children will be stationed at each entrance handing out posters promoting USA Hockey’s “OneGoal” Program, which promotes awareness and understanding of hockey so parents can make informed decisions about involving their families in the sport.
