Goalie Enthusiasts, Get Ready!!!

If you like low scoring games that feature grinding offenses, struggling power plays and teams who’s defensemen lead the way on the offensive side, then you are going to love tonight’s Rockford-Grand Rapids match-up.
In the visiting corner is a team from Rockford that has totaled (gulp) 18 goals in either regulation or overtime over their past 11 games. That’s a 1.61 goals for per game clip.
In the home corner is the team wearing blue from Grand Rapids who has seen fewer red lights than the town of Durand over the past two weeks. The Griffins have scored five goals in their past seven games, a 0.706 goals for per game pace that including three donuts against.
Believe it or not, the IceHogs or Griffins do not have the lowest scoring offenses in the AHL. That distinction belongs to the low octane attack from the Adirondack where the Phantoms tally just 2.10 goals per contest. Rockford (2.37 gpg) is 27th in the league, while Grand Rapids (2.53 gpg) is 26th.
The Griffins’ offense was pretty solid before their recent skid and Rockford’s was top half of the league through the first four weeks of the regular season. The potential is there for both teams, and at times, has been displayed.
The goalies of choice tonight are Alec Richards for Rockford and Jordan Pearce for Grand Rapids. An interesting story line is that they were the two main goalies last season in Toledo (ECHL) with the Walleye. Chicago and Detroit share an ECHL affiliation in Toledo.
Richards had some good success at Van Andel Arena last season, picking up his first two career AHL wins there.
Scratches for Rockford tonight include Wade Brookbank, Rob Klinkhammer (lower), Chris DiDomenico and Ivan VIshnevskiy (lower).
So my prediction tonight: 6-5 Rockford!
