Week 1 Recap:

After five scoreless periods and an overtime, the Rockford IceHogs offense showed some signs of life in Week 1, but the American Hockey League team could only salvage one point in a two-game weekend set with the Chicago Wolves at the Allstate Arena. Jeremy Morin tallied twice on Sunday and Marcus Kruger added a marker in the third frame, but it wasn’t enough to propel the team to their first win. Week 2 features three contests, including Rockford’s home opener on Saturday against Charlotte.

Rockford dropped their first ever 1-0 shootout on Saturday during the team’s season opener in Chicago

Carter Hutton recorded his fourth career shutout in the game, second most during Rockford’s AHL era

Corey Crawford has the most with six

Hutton became the fifth different IceHogs goalie in six AHL seasons to start on Opening Night

Crawford is the only tender to start multiple openers (2007, 2008)

The IceHogs are now 6-6-1-1 in 14 openers and 2-2-1-1 in the AHL era

Jeremy Morin recorded his third career multi-goal game on Sunday in Chicago

Martin St. Pierre chipped in two primary assists on Sunday and now has 90 career points with Rockford, moving him into sixth on the team’s all-time AHL scoring list

Nick Leddy marked a pair of assists on Sunday as well, his third career multi-point game in the AHL

Chicago’s Eddie Lack had allowed just one goal in a 174:07 stretch against Rockford before the IceHogs reeled off three goals in a time span of 4:29 in the third period on Sunday

Morin has tallied three of the last four goals for Rockford against Lack

Rockford had a collective plus/minus rating of -20 on Sunday in their 5-3 loss

The IceHogs penalty kill held the Wolves to 0-12 on the power play over the weekend

St. Pierre, Ben Smith and Ryan Stanton wore the captain “A’s” over the weekend as Ted Dent has not named the team captain yet

Hot Hog: Week 1:
Martin St. Pierre, Center
Veteran center Martin St. Pierre helped jump-start Rockford’s third period comeback attempt on Sunday in Chicago with a pair of primary assists. St. Pierre’s seeing-eye passes to Jeremy Morin and Marcus Kruger closed Rockford’s deficit to 3-2 and his two helpers pushed his career IceHogs point total to 90, sixth most during the team’s AHL era. St. Pierre registered 88 points in his other season with Rockford in 2007-08, second most in the AHL that season. The Embrun, Ont. native also has 35 career power-play assists for Rockford, third most in club history.

Upcoming Games:
Friday, Oct. 19 at Peoria Rivermen: The puck hits the ice at 7:05 p.m. as Rockford travels to Peoria to take on the Rivermen at Carver Arena. The game is the first of 12 meetings on the year between the two clubs and an Illinois Lottery Cup contest.

Saturday, Oct. 20 vs. Charlotte Checkers: Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs open the home portion of their regular season slate against the Checkers at the BMO Harris Bank Center. The first 5,000 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs “It All Starts Here” calendar.

Sunday, Oct. 21 vs. Charlotte Checkers: The game starts at 5:05 p.m. The IceHogs finish the weekend series with the Checkers at the BMO Harris Bank Center. It is the second of four meetings between the two squads on the year. The first 2,500 fans to the game will pick up an IceHogs picture frame magnet schedule courtesy of T6 Brtoadband.

Bud Light Hog Talk Is Back Tonight At District Bar and Grill:
Bud Light Hog Talk makes its season premiere tonight at District Bar and Grill from 6-7 p.m. District is located one block north of the BMO Harris Bank Center on West State Street. Fans can join Mike Peck from 6-7 p.m. most Mondays as he chats with IceHogs players, coaches and front office members. This week’s guests include IceHogs forwards Andrew Shaw and Jimmy Hayes and Head Coach Ted Dent. Take advantage of food and Bud Light specials at District. The show will get re-aired on Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. on WIFR’s 23.2 “Weather Now.”
