- Rockford, Ill- Jonathon Blum and Roman Josi led the Milwaukee Admirals as they sailed past the Rockford IceHogs 2-1, on Sunday at the Rockford MetroCentre.
Blum ended the night with a goal and assist while Josi chipped two assists giving him five assists in three games against Rockford.
After a scoreless first, the Admirals got things started in the middle frame. With Milwaukee on the man advantage, Blum sent a quick rink wide pass across to Blake Geoffrion who was tucked behind the penalty kill of the IceHogs. Geoffrion snuck a one-timer to the right of Alec Richards pad at 8:09. Josi was also credited with an assist.
Milwaukee extended their lead as the IceHogs found themselves on the penalty kill again. This time a low shot from the point coming from Blum's stick made it 2-0. Blum's power-play goal at 10:36 was set up by defensive partner Josi, who added to his point total with his second assist of the night.
Then the Hogs got one back at 13:20 in the second period to make it 2-1. Evan Brophey pushed the puck up the ice to Shawn Lalonde as he raced towards the Admirals net. Lalonde picked up the feed and wristed the puck past Mark Dekanich from the right hashes. Rob Klinkhammer also chipped in with an assist on the play.
In the third period Milwaukee held the lead by clamping down defensively allowing Rockford just four shots. Rockford pulled Richards in the final minute to get an extra attacker, however the IceHogs were never able to get one through.
Dekanich recorded the win stopping 24 of 25 shots.
Notes: Before tonight's game, when giving up two goals the IceHogs were 3-0-0-0. ...The IceHogs penalty kill gave up two goals, the first time since Nov. 7. Goaltender Alec Richards made 28 saves on 30 shots. Rockford's power-play finished 0-3, while the penalty kill went 2-4.
