Some memorable dates this week in Blackhawks history:

  • The 33rd of 34 scoreless Blackhawks ties came on December 17, 1997 at Edmonton in the goalie duel between Chicago's Jeff Hackett and Curtis Joseph. It was 18 years after #32, which was at the Stadium between Tony Esposito and Pittsburgh's Greg Millen. Because of current rules, the last 0-0 Hawks tie -- and the only one at the United Center -- occurred six years later against Phoenix.
  • The first owner of the Blackhawks, Major Frederick McLaughlin, died on December 17, 1944.
  • The Hawks retired the second jersey in team history on December 18, 1983, when Bobby Hull's #9 jersey was lifted to the rafters at the Stadium..
  • Also on that date in 1932, the first championship game ever played at the Stadium was held when the Chicago Bears beat Portsmouth 9-0 for the pro football title.
  • On the 18th in 1982, Steve Larmer became the first Hawks rookie to get two hat tricks in a season during an 8-5 decision over the Leafs in Toronto.
  • Patrick Sharp registered his 100th NHL career point on December 19, 2007 against Nashville with two goals, which included the game-winner on a shortie, in a 5-2 victory over the Predators. In the same game, Ben Eager made his Chicago debut after a trade with the Flyers and picked up an assist.
  • Duncan Keith got his only game-winning goal of the season on the 19th last year when the Hawks edged the Flames 3-2 at Calgary.
  • In 1965, Bobby Hull became the first Hawk to have three straight multiple-goal games, which began on the 19th.
  • The Hawks got their 500th NHL victory on December 20, 1953, when they beat the Maple Leafs 4-2 at the Stadium.
  • December 20, 1970 marked the Hawks' 13th straight home win by nipping Pittsburgh 2-1.
  • Another team standard was established on the same date in 1959 with a seven goal outburst in the second period, paced by Bobby Hull's second of 28 career Blackhawks hat tricks as Chicago thrashed Toronto 7-4 at the Stadium. Another team mark was set when the Hawks fired 27 shots at the Leafs netminder in that period.
  • The 20th in 1989 was a great night in Hawks history when the team racked up four goals in 1:56 en route to a 9-6 win over St. Louis at the Stadium with rookie Jeremy Roenick, Dirk Graham, Dave Manson and Adam Creighton scoring.
  • On December 22, 2007, Jonathan Toews scored the game-winner in overtime after picking up two assists in regulation as the Hawks edged the Senators in Ottawa. In the same game, Dave Bolland won eight of ten faceoffs, less than a week after scoring his first NHL goal.
  • Brent Seabrook got the first two-goal game of his NHL career, which included the game-winner, in a 3-2 battle with Edmonton at the UC on December 23, 2007.
